Kalanchoe thyrsiflora succulent blog

Family
Kalanchoë belong to the large succulent family which includes 125 known varieties.
These plants grow mainly in warm areas, such as Asia and Southeast Africa. Kalanchoes can store water in their leaves, which is why they are very hardy plants and have great resistance to drought. Kalanchoe thyrsiflora is also known as "desert rose".

Curiosity
Kalanchoe thyrsiflora has oval gray-green leaves, but when it comes into contact with sunlight, it turns the edges of the leaves red. This is the beauty of this plant and is therefore extremely suitable as an outdoor plant.
During warm times of the year it is ideal as an outdoor plant in the garden, on your balcony or on your porch.

Care

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora like all succulents is a simple plant to grow. It can be grown in full soil only in areas where winter temperatures do not drop below 10 degrees. Otherwise in autumn it should be placed in a sheltered and possibly very bright area.

Watering

These succulents prefer little water and well-drained soil.
In the warm months, the ideal is to water the plant as soon as you notice that the soil is dry.
In autumn and winter, however, if the plant is located in a place with cool temperatures below 15 ° C, it can remain without watering until spring.
Tip: if during the cold periods the plant remains in a warm area of the house, then it should be watered very little, only if you notice that the leaves are shriveled.

Fertilization

Succulents are plants with very slow development, for this reason they do not like very nutrient-rich soils.
The fertilization of succulents should be done once a month in the periods from April to September.
These plants need a specific fertilizer for succulents , poor in nitrogen and rich in potassium.
In the cold months it is advisable to suspend fertilization.
